STRATEGIC PLANNING

DEVELOPING A ROADMAP
Construct a 3-5 year "roadmap" or "course of action" for your company. The information presented will take the guesswork out of planning and will create a formal, structured approach. In addition to preparing the company to embrace its future, the roadmap will prove beneficial to investors and/or bankers.

We'll explore how the company should determine its goals and how to achieve them. In particular, three areas will be examined:

  1. Direction of the Organization--"What is the company's mission and guidelines for selecting business areas or new markets?"
  2. Alternatives to achieve the mission--"What are the targets of opportunity within the industry or market?"
  3. Day-to-day planning--"What are the specific timetables and measurable targets?"

Next, we'll discuss how leadership and vision play a critical role in developing and implementing the roadmap. Then we'll determine a step-by-step methodology to develop and implement your corporate roadmap. This will include:

  1. Defining the company's vision--"How will our company look in the future?"
  2. Defining the company's mission--"Why are we in business?"
  3. Conducting a situation analysis--"Where are we today and what external forces will influence our future?" Also, assess the current situation and evaluate SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats).
  4. Formulating the roadmap--"How can we make it happen?"
  5. Implementing the plan--"How do we put the action plan in place?"
